Firefighters rescue man wedged in tree in Northfield

A man had to be rescued after he became wedged in a tree about 20 feet above the ground Monday afternoon in north suburban Northfield.

Firefighters responded to a call about a person stuck in a tree about 2 p.m. in the 0-100 block of Regent Wood Road, said Northfield Deputy Fire Chief Tom Burke.

“When we arrived he was definitely stuck,” Burke said. “We secured him with ropes and Northbrook fire came to assist us with their tower ladder.”

The 55-year-old man was a contractor performing tree trimming when he suddenly had a medical emergency, Burke said. The man was taken to Evanston Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known, Burke said.

The entire ordeal took about 20 minutes.

“He’s very lucky people saw him stuck up there,” Burke said.
