The blaze was reported about 9 a.m. at Kresge Hall at 1880 Campus Dr., a building which is undergoing renovations, according to a statement from Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services.
Welders were cutting pipe on the third floor when embers fell through a pipe chase and ignited debris and aerosol cans in a second-floor room, according to the statement.
The blaze was quickly extinguished and confined to the one room, according to the statement.
All the construction workers were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
