(TINLEY PARK) The death of a south suburban woman struck and killed by a Metra Rock Island District train Wednesday afternoon has been ruled a suicide.

Veronica Reidy, 51, was fatally struck by the train in the 8400 block of 183rd Street in Tinley Park, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Reidy, of the 26300 block of South Winfield Road in Monee, was dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said.

Outbound Rock Island train No. 409 hit the pedestrian about 5 p.m., Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said. The train was between the Tinley Park and Mokena Hickory Creek stations at the time.

An autopsy found Reidy died of multiple injuries and ruled her death a suicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Rock Island trains were halted for about an hour as crews investigated, Metra said.
