(LIBERTYVILLE) Police are searching for a distraught 30-year-old man reported missing from his north suburban home and possibly armed.

Daniel Nerstrom was reported missing from his home in Libertyville about 6 p.m. Monday, according to a statement from Libertyville police.

Nerstrom, a U.S. Army veteran, is thought to be distraught and possibly suicidal, according to police. He may be armed with a handgun.

He is described as a 6-foot-1, 175-pound white man with blonde hair and blue eyes. He may be wearing a black or green Carhartt jacket with numerous military patches, gray Under Armour shirt, tan military-style boots, and camouflage skull cap with red spider logo.

Police have been working with other agencies and searching with K-9 units and a helicopter, but he has not yet been found.

Neighborhood schools have been advised of the situation and have secured their buildings until he is located, police said.
