How many people who bought insurance plans from President Obama’s plan actually paid for it?
About 80 percent, The New York Times figured out by calling all the insurance plans they could reach. Kudos for the hard work.
That means one-fifth of new enrollees that signed up for a plan failed to pay their premiums and therefore, did not actually get coverage to kick in January 1, 2014.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gives reporters monthly updates of how many people have signed up to buy insurance through the Affordable Care Act. But those enrolled numbers included people who may not have actually paid, so it was hard to figure out how many people had actually enrolled.
