A man was shot in the face early Friday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The man, 24, walked into Loretto Hospital with gunshot wounds to the side of his face and his buttocks about 1:10 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

He told police he was outside in the 5200 block of West Monroe Street when he heard shots and realized he’d been hit, Greer said.

The man was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in “stable” condition, Greer said.

Area North detectives are investigating.
