A man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Xavier Tripp, 25, was walking on the sidewalk in the 4100 block of West Adams Street about 1:35 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and an unknown number of people got out, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Shots were fired by at least one person in the group, striking Tripp multiple times before they got back in the car and sped off, authorities said.

Tripp, of the 1500 block of North Long Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he died at 2:15 p.m., a spokesman for the medical examiner’s office said.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives conduct a homicide investigation.
