One man was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The two were shot about 12:25 p.m. in the 700 block of North Springfield Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said. They were then driven to Norwegian-American Hospital by a friend, Sedevic said.

Lewis Jenkins, 38, of the 1000 block of North Lockwood Avenue, was shot in the chest and was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:40 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The other man, 40, was also shot in the chest and was listed in serious condition, police said.

Police said both are documented gang members. Area North detectives are investigating.
