Chicago Police arrested an alleged bank robber just minutes after a holdup occurred in the Loop on Wednesday morning.

The suspect entered a bank in the 800 block of South Wabash Avenue about 10:30 a.m. and passed the teller a note demanding money, police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.

The suspect then ran off with the cash, but officers caught him just a block away in the 800 block of South State, Sedevic said.

Bank personnel identified the man as the robber and he was taken into custody, Sedevic said. The stolen money was recovered and charges are pending.

A bank in the same block of Wabash was robbed last Friday, but an FBI spokesperson could not immediately be reached to say if the robberies are related.
