(HAWTHORN WOODS) A northwest suburban man has been charged with trying to meet a 14-year-old boy for sex online, not realizing it was really a detective.

Ryan J. Horn

Ryan J. Horn, 25, of the 0-100 block of Park View Lane in Hawthorn Woods, faces three felony counts of indecent solicitation of a child, according to a statement from the Lake County Sheriff’s office.

Horn posted an advertisement online seeking a companion last week, according to the sheriff’s office. He began communicating with someone he thought was a 14-year-old boy, but was actually a detective with the sheriff’s cybercrimes unit.

Horn arranged to meet the teen at 10:30 a.m. Monday, but was instead met by detectives, who arrested him, according to the statement. He admitted to trying to meet a teenager for sexual activities.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Horn, who is next scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in Waukegan.
