A man was wounded Wednesday night in a drive-by shooting in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side.

The 20-year-old man was walking in the 1200 block of East 81st Street about 7:50 p.m., when someone fired shots at him from a passing vehicle, police said.

He suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and side and was initially taken to Provident Hospital of Cook County, but later transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said. His condition was not immediately known.

The shooting of the 33-year-old woman, who was grazed in the head and suffered non life-threatening injuries, was likely sparked by an earlier fight involving staffers in the parking lot, officials said.
