Five hurt in Elgin crash on Jane Addams Tollway

(ELGIN) Five people were hurt when two tractor trailers, a truck and an SUV crashed Thursday morning in northwest suburban Elgin, spilling diesel fuel onto the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway.

The crash happened just west of the McLean Boulevard overpass on I-90 at 8:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Elgin fire department.

One semi collided with a box truck, which then struck the SUV and a third semi, according to the release.

Five patients were treated on the scene, three of whom were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, police said. The other two declined further treatment. None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

The crash blocked all three eastbound lanes of I-90 and the concrete barriers that divide the eastbound and westbound lanes were moved.

One of the fuel tanks cracked and spilled diesel onto the road and into the sewer, according to the release.

The spilled diesel fuel was contained in a catch basin along the north side of the tollway, and the EPA and IEMA assisted with the cleanup.
