Shami Cox, 23, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery and aggravated battery, all felonies, according to a release from Skokie police.

About 12:50 a.m. Monday, a man was in his unattached garage in the 8400 block of Christiana Avenue with the overhead door open when Cox walked up and began a conversation, police said.

Cox then grabbed the man’s cell phone, police said. When the man tried to get it back, he suffered a “minor laceration” from a knife Cox was holding.

Cox was taken into custody at the scene, police said. Officers found a knife, a BB gun, and the victim’s cell phone.

Cox is next scheduled to appear in a Skokie courthouse on July 1.
