(BLUE ISLAND) A person of interest is in custody in connection with the shooting death of a 29-year-old man Wednesday in south suburban Blue Island.

Officers responded to Terry McNeal’s home in the 2000 block of Union Street at 12:34 a.m., Blue Island Deputy Police Chief Mike Cornell said.

McNeal had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 11:02 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

McNeal’s death is the first homicide of 2014 in Blue Island, Cornell said.

Cornell did not provide a motive for the shooting, but said a male is in custody and charges are pending. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is assisting with the investigation.
