A man was shot and critically wounded Wednesday evening in the Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side.

The 21-year-old man was sitting outside about 8:20 p.m. in the 5300 block of West Altgeld Street, when someone exited a nearby vehicle and starting shooting, police said.

He suffered gunshot wounds to the thigh, side and hip and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.
