At least one person was killed in a bus crash Wednesday morning in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North Side, police said.

The crash involving multiple vehicles, a CTA bus and a pedestrian happened at North Sheridan Road and West Balmoral Avenue at 11:12 a.m., police said.

The northbound No. 147 bus was standing when it was struck by a vehicle, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.

One person was dead at the scene, according to police and Fire Media Affairs. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Another person in serious-to-critical condition was taken to Illinois Masonic, and four people in fair-to-serious condition were taken to Weiss, according to fire officials.

Hosinski said the driver of the bus and one passenger were taken to a hospital for observation.

Buses were temporarily rerouted in the area of the crash, Hosinski said.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
