In what may be some of the best food news to hit the Chicago market since Shake Shack made plans to come to the city, legendary Cincinnati ice cream shop Graeter’s is looking at opening up here.

Talking to the Cincinnati Business Courier, CEO Rich Graeter talks about the company’s quest to expand and the looming decision about whether Chicago or Nashville will be the next to dish out raspberry chocolate chip.

Graeter wants to open scoop shops in markets outside the Tri-State region. He plans to add three to five stores per new market, for a total of 10 to 15 new locations. Graeter is traveling this week to check out four potential locations in the Chicago market. That’s his top choice for expansion, along with Nashville.

Graeter’s is currently offered in the Chicago market in grocery stores, but the company vision is to expand its scoop shop operation. “That’s where we started, the scoop shop,” Graeter told the Courier. “It’s a lot more personal experience.”
