SHARE Motorcyclist killed in Lake Shore Drive crash

A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was hurt in a crash on Lake Shore Drive in the Lincoln Park neighborhood early Sunday.

The motorcycle was traveling at a “high rate of speed” southbound in the 1700 block of North Lake Shore Drive at 2:55 a.m. when the driver struck a median, police said.

The driver, identified as 48-year-old Daniel Sylva, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:22 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said. He lived in the 8800 block of South Justine, the medical examiner’s office said.

The passenger, a 52-year-old woman, was also taken to Northwestern, where her condition had stabilized, police said. Lanes were temporarily closed after the crash, but reopened at 4:24 a.m., police said.
