(MORTON GROVE) A man was killed Monday afternoon when he was struck by a Metra train on the Milwaukee District / North Line in north suburban Morton Grove.

Outbound train No. 2127, scheduled to arrive in Deerfield at 5:10 p.m., struck a person about 4:50 p.m. near Beckwith Road in Morton Grove, according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The 53-year-old man was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.

All trains on the Milwaukee District / North Line were stopped about 5:05 p.m., according to Metra.

Inbound trains were on the move again about 5:45 p.m., but operating between 30 and 50 minutes behind schedule, while outbound trains resumed service about 6 p.m., running 15 to 80 minutes late.

Morton Grove police could not immediately provide additional details.
