(WHEELING) A Wheeling police officer’s vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday morning in the northwest suburb.

The on-duty officer was involved in a crash with a male pedestrian about 5:45 a.m. on McHenry Road, just west of Cedar Run Drive, police said in a statement.

The man, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:26 a.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His name and home address were not released Sunday evening.
