Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and AutoInsurance.com this week added coverage on their comparison shopping site include Illinois and 10 other states.
The insurance comparison site was launched earlier this year with coverage in eight states. The companies say the website now covers more than half of the U.S. population.
“Our customers have told us that auto insurance is one of their largest household expenses, but one of the toughest to do anything about. We’re so excited to work with AutoInsurance.com as they expand this service and give Illinoisans an easy way to save big money on auto insurance.” said Daniel Eckert, senior vice president of services for Walmart U.S.
The companies said about one in three people who used the website to buy auto insurance were previously uninsured.
Insurance carriers listed on the website include esurance, which is backed by Northbrook-based Allstate Corp.
