A South Side high school was temporarily put on lockdown Tuesday morning, the first day of school for CPS students, after police received a call of shots fired nearby.
An anonymous person called 911 and reported shots had been fired near 77th and Ingleside at 11 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.
Hirsch High School is located in the 7700 block of South Ingleside.
“As a precaution, staff acted swiftly and placed the school into lockdown mode for a brief period,” CPS spokesman Bill McCaffrey said.
No evidence was found that shots were fired, Sedevic said.
The school was cleared to open and resumed normal operations, police said.
“At no time were any students or staff in danger, and CPS will work with CPD to ensure a safe dismissal today,” McCaffrey said.
