Police: Search for drugs turns up semi-automatic handgun in Skokie home

(SKOKIE) A man was arrested Tuesday after police executing a search warrant as part of a drug-related investigation allegedly found a handgun in a north suburban Skokie home.

Investigators with the Evanston Police Department’s special operations group searched the home in the 4900 block of Hull Street in Skokie shortly after 6 a.m., according to a statement from Evanston police.

During the search, police recovered a Intratec TEC-22 firearm with extended magazines and just under 50 grams of cannabis, police said.

The resident, 20-year-old Devon Matthews, was charged with aggravated firearm possession without a valid FOID card, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of cannabis, all felonies, police said.

He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card and possession of firearm without a valid FOID card, police said.

Matthews is next scheduled to appear in court at the Skokie courthouse Sept. 11, police said. Bond information was not immediately available.
