Driver charged with DUI after flagging down officer to say ‘hello’

(RIVERSIDE) A Chicago man who flagged down an officer to say “hello” while driving in west suburban Riverside was charged shortly after with DUI early Saturday.

Freddie L. Levison, 57, stopped his 2012 Chevy SUV to say “hello” to a fully marked squad car near the 3400 block of Harlem, Riverside police said in a statement. After greeting the officer, Levison continued heading south on Harlem, but drove “erratically,” police said. He was then stopped a few blocks away by the officer.

The driver, who told police his license was suspended due to a previous DUI, had a blood alcohol level of .210, nearly three times the legal limit in Illinois, police said.

Levison, of the 7500 block of South Dorchester Avenue in Chicago, was charged with two counts of DUI, driving with a suspended license and illegal lane usage, police said.
