A man was fatally stabbed Friday night in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Leon Austin, 21, was stabbed in the chest during a fight with an “unknown offender” about 8:25 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Emerald, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Austin, of the 7500 block of South Union, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:07 p.m., authorities said.

An autopsy performed Saturday ruled his death a homicide.
