The LaSalle Street bridge over the Chicago River downtown will close for four days starting Friday for construction on the riverwalk.

The bridge will close to cars and pedestrians from 7 p.m. Friday until 11 p.m. Tuesday for placement of concrete piers for the new underbridge connection, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation. Detour routes will be set up for pedestrians, vehicles and bicycles.

Northbound traffic will be detoured to eastbound Wacker, northbound Dearborn, westbound Grand and then back to northbound LaSalle, according to CDOT.

Southbound traffic will be detoured to eastbound Illinois, southbound Clark, westbound Wacker and back to southbound LaSalle.

CTA No. 156 LaSalle buses will also be temporarily rerouted. Southbound buses will take Kinzie to Clark to Wacker before resuming their normal route, and northbound buses will take Wacker to Dearborn to Kinzie before resuming their normal route.

CDOT is working on the final phase of construction of the riverwalk, which extends from LaSalle under the Wells and Franklin bridges to Lake Street. The construction is expected to be completed in late 2016.
