A man killed in a crash early Saturday in north suburban Libertyville has been identified as a Mundelein resident.

About 2:45 a.m., a Volkswagen Beetle and a semi collided at the intersection of Peterson and Harris roads in Libertyville, according to Libertyville police.

The Volkswagen was eastbound on Peterson when the front of the car hit the rear of the semi, which had been traveling west on Peterson and turning left onto Harris, a statement from police said.

Steven D. Daskauskas, 22, of Mundelein, a front-seat passenger in the Volkswagen, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The 22-year-old woman who’d been driving was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with minor injuries.

The 41-year-old woman driving the semi was not hurt, police said.

Charges are pending and the accident remains under investigation Monday evening, police said.
