An 18-year-old boy reported missing from Crystal Lake is said to be “despondent” and may be armed, prompting a lockdown at several area schools.

Adrian Salazar left his home late Sunday and has not returned, according to a statement from Crystal Lake police. He may be in possession of a firearm.

The investigation has led to a soft lockdown at four nearby schools — Cary-Grove High School, Prairie Ridge High School, Crystal Lake Central and Crystal Lake South, according to District 155’s website.

“This is a precautionary measure and we do not believe there is any immediate danger for our students or employees,” a statement on the district’s website reads. During the soft lockdown, students will move between classes but no one will be allowed in or out of the buildings.

Salazar is described as a 5-foot-6, 125-pound Hispanic boy with brown hair and brown eyes, police said. He was last seen wearing a black sweater and black pants.

Police said Salazar may be despondent and in need of assistance.

Anyone with information should call police at (815) 356-3741 or (815) 356-3620. Anyone who sees him is advised not to approach and instead call 911.

“While we do not have any information Adrian poses a danger to others, caution should be exercised,” police said.
