A suspicious sleeping bag left outside the Chicago Fire Academy was deemed safe after it prompted a hazardous material investigation Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters got a HazMat report at 2:30 p.m. for the academy at 558 W. De Koven on the Near West Side, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said.

The officials were investigating a sleeping bag “and other items” that were apparently left outside the building, Hernandez said.

The items were deemed harmless by 3:20 p.m., Hernandez said.
