A woman is dead and another person in serious condition after a fire Saturday night in the Northwest Side Belmont Cragin neighborhood, authorities said.
The blaze was reported in the basement of a one-story bungalow in the 6000 block of West Nelson about 10 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight.
A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and another person was taken in critical condition to Community First Medical Center, Knight said. The genders and ages of the victims were not immediately available.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
