An 18-year-old from Calumet City who was on his way home from a high school prom and a 56-year-old man died in a head-on crash early Saturday in the south suburb.

Aaron K. Dunigan was heading home from prom at 6:40 a.m. with two other boys when their westbound vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic in the 700 block of State Street and struck a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Juan Jose Rivera, also of Calumet City, police Chief Edward Gilmore said.

Dunigan was dead at the scene at 7:26 a.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Rivera was pronounced dead shortly after that at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The teenager driving the westbound vehicle was charged with possession of marijuana, Gilmore said. A blood test was performed to see if he had any marijuana in his system at the time of the crash, but Gilmore said he did not know the results late Saturday.
