An extra-alarm fire Monday afternoon left a home uninhabitable in northwest suburban South Barrington.
The blaze was reported just before 1 p.m. at a home in the 0-100 block of West Ridge Drive, said Jeff Swanson, fire chief for the Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District.
Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the attic, and soon elevated the fire to a three-alarm, Swanson said.
The fire was contained to the attic and was extinguished about two hours later, Swanson said. A majority of the attic was burned.
The residents made it out of the home and were not injured, Swanson said.
Swanson did not have an estimate of the damage, but said the home was not inhabitable, and the residents had found somewhere else to stay.
