Police: Bicyclist killed in Kane County crash

A bicyclist was killed after being thrown from a bicycle in a crash in northwest suburban Kane County Monday afternoon.

About 4:10 p.m., a 2009 Honda CRV traveling south was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Walker and Allen roads in incorporated Hampshire Township, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office.

The car was driving through the intersection when a bicyclist hit the passenger’s side door and the rider was thrown from the bicycle, police said.

The rider, 68-year-old James Conners of the 200 block of Red Haw Lane in Hampshire, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver, a 64-year-old DeKalb man, was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was ticketed for failure to yield right of way.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol factored in the crash.
