A 61-year-old woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Monday night in northwest suburban Morton Grove.

Adriana Zic Groeling was struck by Amtrak Train 341 on the Metra tracks near Lincoln Avenue in Morton Grove about 8:30 p.m., authorities said.

The train engineer reported that as the train was approaching the station, he saw the railroad gates go down, then saw Groeling approach, look in both directions, and walk around the crossing gates, according to a statement from Metra. Another witness corroborated the engineer’s account.

Groeling, of the 6300 block of Lincoln Avenue in Morton Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled a suicide.

At the time, 117 passengers were on the train, Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods said. No one else was injured.
