A Crystal Lake man was struck and killed by a Metra train Saturday morning in the northwest suburb.

About 6:20 a.m., the 44-year-old was hit by inbound Union Pacific-Northwest train No. 700 near the Pingree Road station, 265 Exchange Drive in Crystal Lake, according to Metra and the McHenry County coroner’s office. He was dead at the scene, authorities said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Crystal Lake police could not be reached for comment Saturday evening.

Saturday’s first three inbound and first outbound UP-N trains were delayed until mid-morning as crews cleared the scene, a Metra spokesman said.
