A northwest Indiana man was killed Tuesday in a traffic crash outside of Lowell.

John Diddens, 79, may have had a medical condition that led to the 7 p.m. crash in the 9400 block of West 181st Street, according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

The 2012 white Toyota Rav 4 was traveling east when it veered off the road and collided with a tree, Lake County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Patti Van Til said.

Diddens, of the 500 block of Shawnee Drive in Lowell, suffered blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point, the coroner’s office said.

No one else was in the vehicle and no one else was hurt, Van Til said.
