A 14-year-old girl died after a far southwest suburban Interstate 55 crash Friday afternoon.

Hannah Schlenbecker and her father were in a van with two other people about 1 p.m. on northbound I-55 near mile marker 244 in unincorporated Channahon Township when a semi rear-ended their vehicle, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The four people in the van were taken in serious condition to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, state police said.

Schlenbecker, of Tulsa, Okla., was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died at 6:12 p.m., authorities said.

The semi driver was not hurt and no charges or citations had been issued as of Friday night, police said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
