Man hurt in Chatham crash

A 35-year-old man was injured in a Chatham neighborhood crash early Monday on the South Side.

About 2:20 a.m., he was driving in the 1200 block of East 87th Street when he swerved his car to avoid hitting people who were standing in the street, police said.

He lost control of the car and hit a light pole, police said. Footage from the scene showed the mangled vehicle split down the middle around the pole.

Emergency crews took the driver to Stroger Hospital and police said his injuries weren’t thought to be life-threatening.
