Police are searching for the driver of a car that fatally struck a man Tuesday night, then sped away in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Terrell Walker, 46, was crossing the street in the 6400 block of South Ashland when he was struck by a black car traveling southbound about 9:15 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Walker, of the 6400 block of South Bishop, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:37 p.m., authorities said.

The car sped away after the crash, but was found parked and unoccupied a short time later in the 6500 block of South Laflin, according to police, who are now trying to find the driver.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
