Forecasters urge residents in the north and northwest suburbs to take cover as strong storms roll into the area Monday afternoon.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 4 p.m. for northern Cook County as well as Lake and McHenry counties, according to the National Weather Service.The warning is extended to 4:30 p.m. for Kane, Kendall, Lee and DeKalb counties.
Storms are expected to bring wind gusts of more than 60-mph, torrential downpours and half-dollar-sized hail. Drivers should be vigilant for flash flooding,forecasters said.
