Bill King | Illinois Lottery

A northwest suburban grandfather of six kept his cool after winning $100,000 in the lottery.

Bill King, who has lived in Crystal Lake for the past 20 years, purchased the $30 ticket at BP at 5301 Bull Valley Road in McHenry.

“Even though I was shocked to win such a big prize, I actually remained very calm,” King said in a statement from the Illinois Lottery.

He was at home when he scratched the winning ticket. “I immediately told my wife how much I’d won and she didn’t believed me!” King said.

He and his wife will invest a portion of the money and are planning a vacation for their six grandchildren with the rest.

BP will receive a bonus of $1,000 for selling the winning ticket.
