A man was shot early Friday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The 22-year-old was on the sidewalk in the 4300 block of South Wood about 4:50 a.m. when a vehicle drove up and someone inside shot him multiple times in the chest and neck, police said.

He was unresponsive at the scene and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was alive, but in critical condition, according to police.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
