A north suburban man was killed late Thursday in an Edgebrook neighborhood crash on the Northwest Side.

About 11:20 p.m., two cars were eastbound in the 5200 block of West Devon when one veered into the other, sending it crashing into a tree on the median, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

A person in the car that hit the tree was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he later died, Gaines said.

He was identified as Harry Smith, 66, of the 6600 block of Wood River in Niles, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver of the other car, a 58-year-old man, stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt, police said.
