A 24-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday in northwest suburban Streamwood.

Jeffrey Walker was struck by a vehicle about 5:20 a.m. in the 700 block of Poplar Creek Court, according to a statement from Streamwood police.

Walker, who lived on the same block where he was struck, was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates where he was pronounced dead at 7:58 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Monday found he died of multiple blunt force injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The driver fled the scene before being apprehended a short time later, police said.

Streamwood police are investigating along with the Major Case Assistance Team.
