A 56-year-old north suburban man died of natural causes before a Long Grove traffic crash Wednesday evening, authorities said.

About 7:30 p.m., Yuri Cipurko was at the wheel of a Jeep Grand Cherokee heading northbound on Route 53 near Old Hick Road when his vehicle veered into the southbound lanes and struck a Toyota Camry coming from the other direction, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Cipurko was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he later died, police said. An autopsy Thursday found he died of natural causes before the crash.

The driver of the Toyota suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.

Cipurko lived in the 2300 block of Checker Road in Long Grove.
