A fire caused an estimated $225,000 worth of damage to a northwest suburban Elgin home Sunday morning.

Crews were called at 7:32 a.m. about a house fire in the 800 block of Patricia Avenue in Elgin, according to a statement from the Elgin Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes and saw smoke coming from a roof vent of the attached garage. When firefighters entered the garage, they found the fire in an attic space in the back of the home, fire officials said.

Crews searched the home, but no one was found inside. The firefighters then had to exit the home and fight the fire from the outside because of the “heavy fire involvement” and a partial roof collapse, fire officials said.

The fire was under control by 9:15 a.m., and the building was declared unsafe to live in and red-tagged, fire officials said.

The fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damage to the home and $25,000 in damage to its contents, fire officials said. No one was injured in the fire.

Elgin Fire Department investigators were called to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
