A bicyclist suffered severe injuries in a crash with a van Tuesday afternoon in west suburban Glendale Heights.

The 29-year-old Glen Ellyn man was biking east on the shoulder of the 600 block of North Avenue about 2:30 p.m. when he collided with a Toyota van coming from the opposite direction, according to Glendale Heights police.

He was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with “severe injuries,” police said.

The 55-year-old Glendale Heights man at the wheel of the van stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt, police said.
