Fire officials: Man fatally struck by Metra train in Elgin

A man was fatally struck by an inbound Metra train Thursday afternoon in northwest suburban Elgin, fire officials said.

The Milwaukee District/West Line train No. 2238, which departed Big Timber Road at 1:22 p.m., struck the person about 1:30 p.m. at Kimball Street, which is between the Big Timber station and the Elgin Station, according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

The man was dead at the scene, said Bryan Mcmahan, assistant fire chief at the Elgin Fire Department.

Inbound train No. 2240, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 3:49 p.m., accommodated train No. 2238’s passengers and was operating 9 minutes behind schedule, according to the transit agency.
