A man wounded in a shooting at a Back of the Yards neighborhood bar last year on the South Side has filed a lawsuit against the owner.

The Jan. 25, 2014 shooting at Rudy’s Lounge, 5101 S. Union Ave., left another man dead and at least three others injured, authorities said at the time.

Kyle Davidson filed the suit Friday in Cook County Circuit Court, claiming it was the responsibility of the bar owner to keep him and other patrons safe, and that security at the venue was lacking.

It started when an argument broke out between party-goers and two uninvited males about 12:45 a.m., and after the males were escorted from the bar by security, shots were fired from the bar’s doorway, police said at the time.

Elsaleem Mannte, 35, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died within an hour, authorities said. He lived in the 8100 block of South Drexel Avenue.

Additionally, a 37-year-old man shot in the neck, a 40-year-old man grazed in the head and a 34-year-old woman grazed in the neck were taken to Stroger Hospital. Another 37-year-old man with a graze wound to the arm took himself to Provident Hospital. Their conditions stabilized, police said.

Parrish Davis, 30, was charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder for the attack in March 2014. He remains held without bond at the Cook County Jail.

The owner of Rudy’s Lounge could not be immediately reached for comment.

The one-count suit seeks at least $50,000 in damages.
