A 24-year-old man shot himself before his body washed up on the shore of Northerly Island Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responded about 2 p.m. to the 1500 block of South Linn White Drive, where Alexander Jacob Callaway was dead at the scene, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a suicide, a Friday autopsy found.

Callaway lived in the 900 block of South Clark, authorities said.
